And now for something completely different...

Greatest movie quote about flying. Ever.

"Do you know what the 1st rule of flying is?
Love.
You can know all the math in the 'verse, you take a boat up in the air that you don't love she'll shake you off just as sure as the turnin' of worlds.
Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tell you she's hurtin 'fore she keels.
Makes her a home."

-Capt. Malcolm Reynolds
from "Serenity", written by Joss Whedon.

Yeah, I'm a big sap. I just bought the movie (from the 'previously viewed' shelf, of course) and watched it. Again. Already saw it in the theatres.
Firefly was quite possibly Joss Whedon's best work. While the movie was a sad final note in a beautiful series, it still makes you wonder 'what if we could do that'?

I love this kind of stuff :)

Harper is the Devil?

What's with everyone being so damn quick to demonize this guy? Everyone I've tried to have a conversation with about the newly appointed PM (by a majority of the country I might add kids) has seemed ready to cruicify Harper personally! I'm serious! Give these people a hammer and some 2 by 4's and I seriously think they'd be leading the charge with torches and pitch fork's in hand!
There are two things they tend to latch on to like a bulldog on a t-bone: The first is womens rights and the question of abortion; The second is gay rights and the question of gay marriage.
Personally I'm pro-choice on the first and indifferent on the second. So there, everyone knows where I stand.
But this makes me a horrible person because I have aparently voted for the Devil incarnate! Oh lordy lordy run for the hills it's the 3rd coming of the Apocalypse! Do people not realise that the more controversial issues like abortion and gay marriage are going to be squashed in a heartbeat simply because the Conservatives have a minority? Not to mention that I believe most of the frigging country positively supports these issues!! INCLUDING PEOPLE THAT MAY HAVE VOTED FOR THE CONSERVATIVES! (*gasp all around!*)
Believe it or not I was cheering for the NDP in the short strokes of the election results. I was hoping that the NDP could gain enough seats so that they could hold the "balance of power" as they're calling it. They'd keep the Conservatives in check on the social issues such as health care and human rights, but they wouldn't have enough power to overrule some of the drastic changes to the government that are needed. Now Gilles Duceppe is strutting around like a christmas turkey thinking he's got all the marbles. I hate to tell you Gilles, but Harpers going to talk to the Liberals before he goes anywhere near you. I personally think that having a party in the federal election who's goal is to separate from the rest of the country is borderline treason. Treason is a word that isn't used often enough these days.
It seems that so many people these days are losing touch of what made this country strong in the first place. And honestly, I think it has F&*K ALL to do with what party was in power. People come to the country and work hard, they make a good life for themselves. How hard is that to figure out? Handouts don't make a country great.
Grr... It's too early in the morning to be getting my blood pressure up like this. For over a decade corruption and broken promises has been the norm. WHY is this acceptable to so many? I'm starting to think that maybe a lot of people in this country are afraid of change.
My only hope is that the opposing parties don't get their knickers in a twist before Harper's had a chance to do something good for this country.

I'm sure I'm going to share more later, but this is all I can spit out before I've had coffee.

2+2=5 .....

..... for extremely large values of 2
I know I know, it's an old math joke but I still find it funny.

It's kind of indicative of how much education and exposure individuals have had to the world. Some people will laugh and fully understand the principle behind it, some will laugh simply because it's wrong. Others will scratch their heads and say "but 2+2=4"!. Ahh the power of symbols. Is 2 a finite quantity, or just a symbol representing anything we want? Does 2 always mean the same thing? Will 2 ever represent The Meaning of Life, The Universe, and Everything?

So this is my first blog of '06, my first blog in a month, and my first blog under the new title! Yes, I just finished re-reading "The Hitchikers Guide to The Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. I'm one of those crazy people that will read a book twice to see if I missed anything the first time through. I've only encountered one movie that is better than it's book, and that was "The Hunt for Red October". One of Tom Clancy's earlier attempts, the book is... let's say verbose, though I don't know what an appropriate word would be for "holy shit let's move the story on buddy".
I don't think I'll ever read "War and Peace".

Kinda random post, kinda weak... maybe later this week I'll get the urge to show the pictures I took yesterday while riding my motorcycle. Yeah that's right, I'm biking in JANUARY!! Hehe..
I love BC!
